In plain English
A price chart where each period is a vertical line showing the high and low, with small ticks for the open and close.
On a bar chart, each bar is one period. The vertical line runs from the high to the low; a tick on the left marks the open and a tick on the right marks the close. That is why it is also called an OHLC chart (open, high, low, close).
It carries exactly the same information as a candlestick chart, just without the coloured bodies. Many traders find candles easier to read at a glance; some old hands still prefer bars.
