Block Reward
a.k.a. Block subsidy, Mining reward
The coins paid to whoever successfully adds a new block to a blockchain: newly created coins plus the transaction fees inside.
The block reward is the paycheque for adding a block. On Bitcoin it has two parts: brand-new coins created out of thin air (the subsidy), plus all the transaction fees paid by the people whose payments are in that block.
The subsidy is how new bitcoins enter the world, and it shrinks on a fixed schedule. It started at 50 BTC per block in 2009 and is cut in half at every halving; after the 2024 halving it stood at 3.125 BTC. Eventually it fades to zero, and miners will have to live on fees alone.
