In plain English
An oscillator that measures how far price has strayed from its average, used to spot new trends or stretched moves.
The Commodity Channel Index (CCI), created by Donald Lambert, compares the current typical price with its moving average, scaled by how much price usually deviates. Despite the name, it works on any market.
Readings above +100 suggest price is unusually high versus its average; below −100, unusually low. Some traders see those as overbought and oversold; others treat a push beyond them as the start of a strong trend.
