Gunning
a.k.a. Stop hunting, Running the stops
Pushing price toward a level where many stop orders sit, to trigger them and profit from the burst of orders.
In plain English
Pushing price toward a level where many stop orders sit, to trigger them and profit from the burst of orders.
Gunning for stops means driving price at a spot where lots of traders have placed their stop-losses, often just beyond obvious highs, lows or round numbers. When the stops trigger, they add fuel, and the gunner can trade against the spike.
Whether it is deliberate or simply crowded orders at obvious places, the lesson is the same: stops at the most obvious level often get hit first.
