Maldivian Rufiyaa

a.k.a. MVR

The currency of the Maldives, held close to the US dollar by the country's central bank.
In plain English

The currency of the Maldives, held close to the US dollar by the country's central bank.

The Maldivian rufiyaa (MVR) is the money of the Maldives, the island nation of turquoise lagoons. Tourism brings in most of its foreign cash, much of it in US dollars, and the central bank keeps the rufiyaa within a narrow band against the dollar. Plenty of resorts price everything in dollars and never touch the local currency at all.
