Myanmar Kyat
a.k.a. MMK, Burmese kyat
The currency of Myanmar, under heavy official control and with a gap between official and street rates.
In plain English
The currency of Myanmar, under heavy official control and with a gap between official and street rates.
The Myanmar kyat (MMK, pronounced roughly "chat") is Myanmar's money. Since the 2021 military coup, authorities have imposed tight currency controls, and the official rate has often been very different from the rate people actually pay on the street. That gap is a warning sign that a currency is under stress. It is not something you will find on a retail trading platform.
