Paraguayan Guarani
a.k.a. PYG
Paraguay's currency, named after the country's Indigenous people and their language.
In plain English
Paraguay's currency, named after the country's Indigenous people and their language.
The Paraguayan guaraní (PYG) is Paraguay's money, named after the Guaraní people, whose language is still widely spoken there. Paraguay is a big exporter of soybeans, beef and hydroelectric power, so farm prices and the economies of neighbours Brazil and Argentina influence it. Prices are quoted in thousands of guaraníes, because one unit is worth very little.
