Symmetrical Triangle
a.k.a. Coil
A pattern where lower highs and higher lows converge into a point, showing a squeeze before a breakout.
A symmetrical triangle forms when sellers keep pushing the highs down and buyers keep pushing the lows up at a similar angle. Two converging trend lines squeeze price into a narrowing wedge, like a spring being wound.
Neither side is winning, so the pattern does not predict direction by itself. Traders wait for a decisive breakout through either line, often expecting the move to roughly match the triangle's widest part. Compare the ascending and descending triangles, which have a flat side.
