In plain English

An indicator by Welles Wilder that adds up a 'swing' value for each bar to show the true direction and strength of a trend.

The Accumulative Swing Index (ASI) was designed by J. Welles Wilder, the same mind behind RSI and ATR. For each bar it scores the swing using the open, high, low and close compared with the previous bar, then keeps a running total.

The running line is meant to act like a cleaner version of price. When it breaks above an old peak, that hints the price breakout is genuine; when it fails to, the breakout may be a fake. Many traders find it fiddly and prefer simpler tools, but the idea of confirming breakouts with a second line is useful.
