ACH Transfer
a.k.a. ACH, Automated Clearing House
A cheap, slow US bank-to-bank electronic transfer, often used to move dollars into or out of a crypto exchange account.
An ACH transfer moves money between US bank accounts over the Automated Clearing House network, the plumbing behind direct deposits and many bill payments. It is cheap, often free, but not instant: payments are processed in batches and can take a business day or a few to settle.
For crypto, ACH is a common on-ramp: you link your bank to an exchange, send dollars, and buy coins. Because bank transfers can still be reversed for a while, many exchanges let you trade right away but lock withdrawals of what you bought until the money has properly cleared.
Expecting to buy coins and send them to your own wallet the same afternoon, then finding the exchange has put a hold on withdrawals until the bank transfer clears.
