Bull Market
A long stretch of rising prices and optimism.
In plain English
A long stretch of rising prices and optimism. For stock indexes, a rise of 20% or more from a low is the usual rule of thumb.
In a bull market, dips get bought, highs keep getting higher and the mood is confident, sometimes too confident. For stocks, a 20% rise from a recent low is the common label.
Bull markets can run for years, and they make many people feel like geniuses. The skill is remembering that they end. Opposite: bear market.
