Trend
a.k.a. Uptrend, Downtrend
The general direction a price is moving over time: up (higher highs and higher lows), down, or sideways.
A trend is the bigger story behind the noise. In an uptrend, price makes higher highs and higher lows, like climbing a staircase. In a downtrend, it makes lower highs and lower lows. With neither, the market is ranging sideways.
Trends can run for days, months or years, and they end without warning. Many traders look for longs in uptrends and shorts in downtrends, using support and resistance to time entries.
Calling the top or bottom of a strong trend again and again, and getting flattened each time.
