In plain English

The rate used to turn an amount in one currency into another, for example to show profits in your account currency.

A conversion rate is an exchange rate put to work. If your account is in pounds and you trade USD/JPY, your profit arrives in yen and the platform uses a conversion rate to show it in pounds.

Banks and card companies often add a markup to their conversion rates, which is one way travelling costs you more than you think.
