Crypto
a.k.a. Cryptocurrency, Digital assets
Digital currencies such as Bitcoin and Ether that run on blockchains instead of being issued by a central bank.
Cryptocurrencies are digital assets recorded on a blockchain, a shared public ledger that no single bank or government controls. Bitcoin was the first; thousands followed.
Crypto trades 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and its volatility is legendary: moves of 10% in a day are not unusual. Like forex, many coins are quoted in pairs, such as BTC/USD. The upside can be dramatic; so can the crashes.
Buying a fraction
- A coin is priced at $60,000.
- You buy 0.01 of it: 0.01 × $60,000 = $600.
- A 10% drop takes the coin to $54,000, and your holding to $540.
Bottom line: You do not need a whole coin, but every swing still applies to what you hold.
Treating crypto like a lottery ticket and putting in money you cannot afford to see halve overnight.
