DAO

a.k.a. Decentralized autonomous organization

An organization run by rules in code and votes by token holders instead of a boss.
In plain English

An organization run by rules in code and votes by token holders instead of a boss.

A DAO is a group whose treasury and decisions live on a blockchain. Members holding its tokens vote on proposals, and smart contracts carry out the result: no CEO signing off.

That sounds clean, but votes can be dominated by a few big holders, and buggy code can be exploited. The DAO is only as fair as its token spread and as safe as its contracts.
