Economist
Someone who studies how economies work: production, prices, jobs, money and trade.
In plain English
Someone who studies how economies work: production, prices, jobs, money and trade.
An economist builds and tests ideas about why economies grow, stall and inflate. In markets, bank economists forecast data releases and central bank moves, and their consensus becomes the 'forecast' number on the economic calendar.
Economists disagree often, and forecasts are frequently wrong. Their value lies in the reasoning, not in perfect predictions.
