In plain English
The US government's weekly report on how much crude oil is in storage, released by the Energy Information Administration.
Every week, usually Wednesday, the US Energy Information Administration reports crude oil and fuel stockpiles. A bigger-than-expected build suggests weak demand or plentiful supply, often pushing oil down; a draw suggests the opposite.
It follows the industry's API report by a day and carries more weight. Oil swings can ripple into the Canadian dollar and other oil currencies.
