Gold
a.k.a. XAU, XAU/USD
A precious metal held for thousands of years as a store of value, now traded heavily against the dollar as XAU/USD.
Gold has no interest payments and limited industrial use, yet people and central banks keep buying it because it has held value through wars, inflation and currency collapses. On trading platforms it is usually quoted as XAU/USD, like a currency.
Gold often rises when real interest rates fall or fear spikes, and is pressured when the dollar and real yields rise. Central bank buying has been a big source of demand in recent years. It can still swing hard: 'safe' is not the same as 'stable'.
