HODL
a.k.a. Hodler, Hodling, Hold on for dear life
Crypto slang for holding on to your coins through ups and downs instead of selling.
HODL means hold. It started in December 2013, when a frustrated Bitcoin forum user, by his own admission a few drinks in, posted a rant titled "I AM HODLING" about being a bad trader who'd just hang on instead. The typo became a battle cry. Later, people back-filled it as "hold on for dear life".
A hodler buys and sits tight for the long run, ignoring the daily swings. It's the opposite of trading in and out. It has rewarded patience in some periods and punished it badly in others, especially for coins that never came back.
Using 'HODL' as a reason never to review a position. Holding is a choice; make it on purpose, not out of habit.
