Order
An instruction to your broker to buy or sell, now or when certain conditions are met.
In plain English
An instruction to your broker to buy or sell, now or when certain conditions are met.
An order is how you tell the market what you want. "Buy now at whatever the price is" is a market order. "Buy only if it drops to this price" is a limit order. "Sell if it falls through this level" is a stop order. Each one has its own trade-off between speed and price control.
Getting your order types straight is unglamorous but crucial. The wrong one can fill you at a terrible price, or not fill you at all.
