Singapore Dollar
a.k.a. SGD, Sing dollar
Singapore's currency, managed by the central bank against a hidden basket of currencies rather than through interest rates.
The Singapore dollar (SGD) is unusual. Singapore's central bank, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), runs monetary policy through the exchange rate rather than an interest rate. It lets the Sing dollar move within an undisclosed band against a basket of trade partners' currencies, and tilts that band up or down to fight inflation or support growth.
So when MAS "tightens", it means allowing the currency to rise faster, not hiking rates. USD/SGD is a fairly liquid Asian pair and a decent read on regional risk mood.
