Testnet
a.k.a. Test network
A practice copy of a blockchain where coins are free and worthless, used to test software safely.
In plain English
A practice copy of a blockchain where coins are free and worthless, used to test software safely.
A testnet is a rehearsal stage. It runs the same software as the real mainnet, but its coins have no value; developers get them free from "faucets". That lets them test apps and upgrades without risking real money.
Some projects reward people who try their testnet, which is why you'll hear about testnet "farming" in hope of a future airdrop. Just remember: anyone selling you testnet coins is selling you nothing.
