Airdrop
a.k.a. Token airdrop
Free tokens sent to a batch of wallets, usually to reward early users or spread a new coin around.
An airdrop is when a project hands out free tokens straight into people's wallets. Some go to anyone holding a certain coin; others reward people who actually used a new app before it had a token of its own.
Projects do it to get their token into lots of hands fast, build a community, or thank early users. Recipients often sell straight away, which can drag the price down in the first days.
Scammers love the idea too. A random token that appears in your wallet with a link telling you to "claim" more is a classic trap: connecting your wallet to that site can hand over permission to drain it.
Clicking the website named on a mystery token that showed up in your wallet. Free money that asks you to sign something is usually the hook, not the gift.
