TRIX
a.k.a. Triple exponential average
A momentum oscillator showing the rate of change of a triple-smoothed exponential moving average.
In plain English
A momentum oscillator showing the rate of change of a triple-smoothed exponential moving average.
TRIX smooths price three times with exponential moving averages, then shows the percentage change from one bar to the next. Heavy smoothing filters out small wiggles, leaving the underlying momentum.
It swings around zero: above means momentum is up, below means down. Traders watch zero-line crosses, signal-line crosses and divergence. The smoothing that removes noise also makes it slow.
