Turkmenistani Manat
a.k.a. TMT, Turkmenistan Manat
Turkmenistan's currency, tightly controlled, with a large gap between official and street rates.
In plain English
Turkmenistan's currency, tightly controlled, with a large gap between official and street rates.
The Turkmenistani manat (TMT) is the money of Turkmenistan, a gas-rich Central Asian state. The government fixes an official rate against the dollar, but access to dollars at that rate is tightly restricted, so a much weaker black-market rate exists alongside it. In practice it is a non-convertible currency and not tradeable abroad.
