Ukrainian Hryvnia

a.k.a. UAH

Ukraine's currency, tightly managed since Russia's 2022 invasion.
In plain English

Ukraine's currency, tightly managed since Russia's 2022 invasion.

The Ukrainian hryvnia (UAH) is Ukraine's money. After Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, the central bank fixed the rate against the dollar and imposed controls to stop money fleeing, then devalued it later that year. It has since moved to a more flexible, managed rate, supported by large amounts of foreign aid. It is a clear example of currency policy in wartime.
