The Uzbekistani som (UZS) is Uzbekistan's money. For years the country kept a fixed official rate far stronger than the black market. In 2017 it liberalised the currency, letting the official rate fall to near street levels in one go. Gold, gas, cotton and money sent home by workers in Russia are big sources of foreign currency.
