Williams %R
a.k.a. Williams Percent Range, %R
An oscillator from 0 to -100 showing where the latest close sits relative to the recent high–low range.
In plain English
An oscillator from 0 to -100 showing where the latest close sits relative to the recent high–low range.
Williams %R, created by trader Larry Williams, measures how close the latest close is to the top of its recent range. It runs from 0 (closing at the highest high of the lookback period) down to -100 (closing at the lowest low). Readings above -20 are typically called overbought; below -80, oversold.
It is very similar to the stochastic oscillator, just flipped and scaled differently. It is quick and twitchy, so it is usually paired with a trend filter.
