Whitepaper
a.k.a. White paper
A document explaining what a crypto project does, how it works and why it should exist.
A whitepaper is a project's founding document. The best ones explain a real problem, the technical design for solving it, and how the coin or token fits in. Bitcoin's, published by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2008, is nine pages and still worth reading.
Others are glossy brochures full of buzzwords, copied text and charts promising the moon. Reading the whitepaper is part of doing your own research (DYOR). Look for specifics: what's actually built, who built it, and how tokens are split between insiders and everyone else.
Trusting a project because its whitepaper sounds technical. Jargon is cheap; working code and a named team are not.
