Yemeni Rial
a.k.a. YER
Yemen's currency, split into competing versions by civil war.
In plain English
Yemen's currency, split into competing versions by civil war.
The Yemeni rial (YER) is Yemen's money. The civil war that began in 2014 split the country's central bank between rival authorities, and notes issued in different areas came to trade at very different rates. It is a stark example of how conflict can fracture a currency, and it is not tradeable on mainstream platforms.
