Ask
a.k.a. Offer, Buy price
The price tag on the shelf. It is always a hair higher than what you could sell it back for.
In plain English
The price at which the market will sell to you, so it is the price you pay when you buy.
The ask (also called the offer) is the higher of the two prices in a quote. Open a long trade, or close a short one, and you pay the ask.
Because you buy at the ask and sell at the bid, every new trade starts slightly underwater by the size of the spread. Price has to move your way just to get you back to zero.
Don’t be that stickman
Setting a buy order without remembering it fills at the ask, then wondering why it triggered "early" or "late".
