In plain English
Australia's currency, code AUD, nicknamed the Aussie, and one of the most traded currencies in the world.
The Australian dollar (AUD), or 'Aussie', is set by the Reserve Bank of Australia's policy and by what Australia digs up and sells: iron ore, coal, gas and gold. That makes it a commodity currency that often follows metal prices and the health of China, its biggest customer.
It is also a risk-mood currency. When investors feel brave, money flows into the Aussie; when fear hits, it tends to slide. AUD/USD is one of the major pairs.
