Major pairs
a.k.a. Majors
The most traded currency pairs, each pairing the US dollar with another big economy's currency, such as EUR/USD or USD/JPY.
The majors are the heavyweights. Most lists include seven: EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, USD/CHF, AUD/USD, USD/CAD and NZD/USD. Every one of them has the US dollar on one side.
Because so much money pours through them, majors usually have deep liquidity and the tightest spreads. That makes them cheaper to trade and less likely to lurch about on a whim. It is why most beginners cut their teeth here.
Thinking "most traded" means "safe". Majors still swing hard on big news, and leverage turns a small swing into a big loss.
