A cambist is someone who deals in, or deeply understands, the exchange of money. The word comes from the Latin and Italian roots for 'exchange', the same family as 'cambio' signs you see at airports.
It is a formal, old-fashioned title. Today you will mostly see it in history books or as a badge of honour among veteran FX dealers.
