Jobber

a.k.a. Stockjobber

An old London term for a market maker who traded on their own account, quoting buy and sell prices to brokers.
In plain English

An old London term for a market maker who traded on their own account, quoting buy and sell prices to brokers.

On the London Stock Exchange before the 1986 'Big Bang' reforms, jobbers made markets and brokers dealt with them on behalf of clients. The roles were kept separate by rule.

In forex the word lingers for a short-term dealer who 'jobs' in and out of positions for small gains.
