Decentralization
a.k.a. Decentralized, Decentralised
Spreading control across many independent participants so no single person, company or government is in charge.
Decentralization means no one holds the steering wheel. Instead of a single bank keeping the records, thousands of independent nodes do. Instead of a CEO deciding the rules, changes need broad agreement. That's what makes a network hard to shut down, censor or corrupt.
It's a spectrum, not a switch. Some projects that call themselves decentralized are, in practice, run by a small team, a few validators or one company holding most of the tokens. It's always worth asking: who could actually change this or turn it off?
