In plain English
A chart, published four times a year, showing where each Fed policymaker expects interest rates to be in coming years.
The dot plot is part of the Fed's quarterly economic projections. Each dot is one anonymous FOMC participant's view of the appropriate federal funds rate at the end of each year.
Traders compare the dots with market pricing. If the dots point to more cuts or hikes than markets expect, the dollar and bond yields can move sharply. The dots are forecasts, not promises, and they change often.
