Anonymity

a.k.a. Anonymous

Acting with no link at all to your real identity.
In plain English

Acting with no link at all to your real identity. Most crypto is not truly anonymous, only pseudonymous.

Anonymity means nothing you do can be traced back to who you are. Cash handed over in a dark car park is close to anonymous.

Bitcoin is often called anonymous, but it isn't. Every transaction sits on a public blockchain forever, tied to a wallet address. That is pseudonymity: a mask, not invisibility. The moment an address is linked to you, say through an exchange that checked your ID, your whole history can be read like a bank statement.

Don’t be that stickman

Believing crypto payments can't be traced. Investigators follow coins across the blockchain all the time.
