Fat Finger
a.k.a. Fat-finger error, Fat finger trade
A typing mistake when placing a trade, like an extra zero, that can send prices lurching or cost a fortune.
A fat finger is a slip of the keyboard on a trade: an extra zero on the size, the wrong price, sell instead of buy. In a busy market it can trigger a sudden spike or crash before anyone notices.
In crypto, fat fingers also hit transfers: paying a huge fee by accident or sending coins to the wrong address. Because blockchain payments generally can't be reversed, the mistake usually sticks. Exchanges add confirmation screens for a reason. Read them.
Clicking through an order confirmation without reading the size and price. One zero can turn a $100 trade into a $1,000 one.
