In plain English
A Federal Reserve facility that lets foreign central banks borrow dollars overnight using their US Treasury holdings as collateral.
Created in 2020 and later made permanent, the FIMA repo facility lets foreign central banks and official institutions swap US Treasuries for dollars temporarily instead of selling them in a stressed market.
It works alongside swap lines to stop global dollar shortages from turning into fire sales of Treasuries.
