Hayden Adams built Uniswap, launched on Ethereum in 2018. He was a mechanical engineer who taught himself to code smart contracts after losing his job, and he turned an idea about automated market makers into a working exchange.
Uniswap showed that people could swap tokens without an order book or a company holding their coins, and its design was copied across DeFi. Adams went on to lead Uniswap Labs, the company that develops it.
