Uniswap is a decentralized exchange launched on Ethereum in 2018 by Hayden Adams. There's no order book and no company holding your coins: you swap straight from your wallet against liquidity pools, priced by an automated market maker.
It became one of the pillars of DeFi and has spread to many other chains. In 2020 it airdropped its UNI governance token to past users, one of the most famous airdrops ever. Anyone can create a pool for any token on it, so fake and scam tokens appear there too.
Searching for a token by name and buying the first result. Check the token's contract address from an official source; copycats use identical names.
