Jerome Powell joined the Fed's Board of Governors in 2012 and became Chair in February 2018. He led the Fed's emergency response to the 2020 pandemic and then one of its fastest rate-hiking cycles in decades in 2022–2023 to fight inflation.
Unlike most recent chairs, he is not a trained economist. His post-meeting press conferences have been some of the biggest scheduled events in forex.
