In plain English
1,000 units of the base currency, a hundredth of a standard lot. On EUR/USD, one pip is worth about 10 cents.
A micro lot is 1,000 units, written as 0.01 lot. On EUR/USD each pip is worth about 10 cents.
Micro lots are the best way to move from a demo account to real money. You feel real emotions with real stakes, but the stakes are small enough to survive your learning curve.
Worked example
Pip value on a micro lot
- 0.0001 × 1,000 units = $0.10 a pip on EUR/USD.
- A 40-pip move: 40 × $0.10 = $4.
Bottom line: A big move on the chart, a small dent in the account.
Don’t be that stickman
