10,000 units of the base currency, a tenth of a standard lot. On EUR/USD, one pip is worth about $1.
A mini lot is 10,000 units, written as 0.10 lot. On pairs quoted in US dollars, each pip is worth about one dollar.
It is a popular middle step: big enough to make moves feel real, small enough that a mistake stings rather than flattens you.
Worked example
Pip value on a mini lot
- 0.0001 × 10,000 units = $1 a pip on EUR/USD.
- A 40-pip move: 40 × $1 = $40.
Bottom line: Same chart, one tenth the money of a standard lot.
Don’t be that stickman
Opening ten mini lots at once and forgetting that adds up to a full standard lot.
