The New Taiwan dollar (TWD) is Taiwan's money. Taiwan makes a huge share of the world's most advanced computer chips, so the currency tends to strengthen when chip demand booms and foreign investors pile into Taiwanese tech stocks, and weaken when they pull out.
Taiwan's central bank manages it actively and much of the offshore trading happens through non-deliverable forwards. Geopolitical tension with mainland China adds an extra layer of political risk.
