South Korean Won
a.k.a. KRW
South Korea's currency, heavily influenced by global tech demand and the health of world trade.
In plain English
South Korea's currency, heavily influenced by global tech demand and the health of world trade.
The South Korean won (KRW) is the money of one of Asia's export powerhouses. Korea sells chips, cars, ships and electronics worldwide, so the won tends to strengthen when global trade and the tech cycle are booming and weaken in downturns.
It is not fully convertible offshore, so a lot of international trading happens through non-deliverable forwards. Traders often treat it as a barometer for Asian risk appetite.
