A consensus method mixing proof of stake with a small set of approved validators, used by BNB Smart Chain.
Proof of Staked Authority (PoSA) is a hybrid consensus system. Like proof of stake, validators lock up coins and can be punished for cheating. Like "proof of authority", only a small, limited set of validators gets to produce blocks at any time, chosen largely by how much stake backs them.
It's the system behind BNB Smart Chain, where it delivers fast blocks and low fees. The cost is decentralization: with few validators, the network depends on a small group behaving well.
