Satoshi Nakamoto
The pseudonymous person or group who created Bitcoin, published its whitepaper in 2008, then disappeared.
Satoshi Nakamoto is the name used by the creator of Bitcoin. In October 2008, Satoshi published the Bitcoin whitepaper; in January 2009 they mined the genesis block, and for the next couple of years they wrote code and posted on forums. Then, around 2011, they stopped and handed the project to others.
Nobody knows for sure who Satoshi is: one person or a group, and from where. Many people have been named, and a few have claimed the title, but none has proved it in the one convincing way, by moving coins known to belong to Satoshi. Those early coins are believed to form a large stash that has never been touched.
