Sidechain
a.k.a. Side chain
A separate blockchain linked to a main chain, letting assets move between them so experiments or extra capacity don't clog the main chain.
A sidechain is a smaller blockchain running alongside a main one, connected by a two-way bridge. You lock coins on the main chain and receive matching coins on the sidechain, use them there, then move them back.
It lets developers add features or speed without changing the main chain's rules. The trade-off is security: a sidechain usually has its own, often weaker, protections, and bridges between chains have been a favourite target for hackers.
